Eligibility is based on your academic record. Students must be enrolled in a degree program at John Brown University or have graduated from another accredited institution with a minimum 2.5 GPA. You must also be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester, with no more than one semester’s suspension during the academic year, to be considered eligible for this scholarship program.

The school was founded by the United Methodist Church in 1869 as Siloam Springs University, later changing its name to John Brown College when it became a private institution; its current name honors John’s son Robert Ewing Brown (1803–1865), a pastor at St. James’ Episcopal Church who served as president from 1869 to 1873.
